Most custom shirts in this city are measured in Manhattan and made somewhere else. Ours are not. Every L&S shirt is cut, sewn, and finished in the atelier at 138 East 61st Street, Suite 201 — the same workshop that has built the house's suits since 1974. From $395.

The first commission starts with a full set of shirt measurements — collar, chest, sleeve pitch, cuff, back yoke — and a pattern drafted for your body. That pattern is kept in the archive under your name. Every shirt after begins from it and gets sharper with each order.

The shirt room is led by Trung, our master shirtmaker. You will meet him at the first consultation; he takes the measurements, drafts the pattern, and oversees the making.

What a shirt commission covers

Dress shirts for the suits — collar construction chosen for your face and frame: point, spread, cutaway, tab; French cuffs or barrel. Casual and sport shirts in linen, flannel, and oxford for the rest of the week. Formal shirts for black tie, in marcella or piqué, cut in exact proportion to your build.

Cloth comes from the fine European shirting mills, chosen by hand feel and how it performs after fifty washes. Why in-house matters for a shirt

A shirt is a small garment with no room to hide. Collar height against the neck, the pitch of a sleeve, the exact width of a cuff on your wrist — these are decisions of an eighth of an inch, and they are why a shirt made three feet from the fitting room beats one made three time zones away. When something needs a half-inch of refinement after the first wearing and washing, the person who cut it makes the change and records it on your pattern.

That is also why the shirts get better as they go. The pattern in the archive is not a frozen record; it is a working document, corrected commission after commission, the same way the house's suit patterns have been refined since 1974.

The rest of the house

Shirts are one door into L&S. The suit side runs in three tiers: made-to-order from $1,295 — house styles sized to you, quality construction; made-to-measure from $2,695 — the master pattern adjusted to your body, full canvas, one fitting; and full bespoke from $3,695 — a pattern drafted from a live drape. Full canvas is the standard on made-to-measure and bespoke. A shirt commission is the simplest way to meet the house before a suit — and if you already dress with us, your shirtmaker works three feet from the tailors who cut your jackets, so collar and lapel are decided together, not by accident.
