L&S Custom Tailors is a New York house. Salvatore Cristiano opened the workshop in 1974; Carl Cristiano runs it today. The address has not moved: 138 East 61st Street, Suite 201, on the Upper East Side, between Park and Lexington.

We cut custom clothing. Bespoke when the pattern should be yours. Made-to-measure when the house pattern is the right start. Full canvas either way. Nine master tailors. The pattern stays here.

Custom only since July 1, 2026. Alterations are for house clients and their immediate family. Not a walk-in shop.

The workshop

Nine master tailors work in the Manhattan workshop upstairs from the fitting room — cutting, basting, pressing, finishing by hand. When you come for a fitting, the person who cut your jacket is on the other side of the wall.

Every bespoke and made-to-measure garment is built on a full floating canvas. Not fused. Not half-measures. Canvas is why a suit takes your shape over time instead of losing its own — the case for full canvas is one we have been making since 1974.

The pattern we draft for you is kept. Your second commission starts where the first one finished. Some of the patterns in the library have been on file for decades.

Three ways in

Full bespoke — a pattern drafted from a live drape on your body. 3–4 fittings on a first suit. From $3,695. This is the whole craft, applied to one person.

Made-to-measure — the house pattern, adjusted to your measurements. Full canvas, one fitting, from $2,695. For most first commissions on the Upper East Side, this is the right door.

Made-to-order — house styles, sized to you, from $1,295. The introduction. And custom shirts, cut and sewn in-house, from $395.

Not sure which? Neither are most people who come in. That is what the first consultation is for. We will tell you plainly which path fits, including the cheaper one when the cheaper one is right.

The neighborhood

The Upper East Side has always dressed with intent, and it has always had tailors. Most of them are gone. We stayed — same block of 61st Street, a few minutes from the 59th Street–Lexington Avenue subway, Suite 201. This is the custom house on this block — not a hem-and-zipper shop, and not a walk-in alterations counter. Clients walk over from Park and Fifth; others come across town or in from out of state twice a year and have their measurements waiting.

We serve the people who work and live here: the boardroom, the courtroom, the wedding at the club, the everyday jacket that has to look composed at eight in the evening. Quietly, and by appointment.

Since 1974

Salvatore Cristiano learned to cut in Palermo and brought the Sicilian hand to New York: soft shoulders, a clean chest shaped by canvas rather than padding, a jacket that moves with the body instead of holding it still.
